Event Type

We have an epidemic of student disengagement that is impacting learning and contributing to achievement gaps. During this session, participants will explore John Hattie’s research-based strategies that dive deeper than behavioral engagement and elicit both cognitive and emotional engagement. Discussion topics will include creating intentionally inviting classrooms, the power of teacher credibility, relationships and expectations, the impact of teacher clarity, and the notion that challenge in the classroom is interesting. Participants will examine student voice data and reflect on schooling from the students’ lens. Finally, participants will consider practices that equip students as learners, thus building their sense of efficacy and empowerment as partners in the learning process.

Speaker: Dr. Cathy Lassiter Corwin, Visible Learning for Literacy
